John 1:1-3

1 John 5:20

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
John 1:14

"But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
John 20:31

"Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist."
1 Corinthians 8:6

In a Nutshell: The Son, who is the Word of the Father, was begotten by the Father from everlasting, being the very and eternal God, and of one substance with the Father. He took on Man's nature in the womb of the blessed Virgin, from her substance. This resulted in two complete and perfect Natures, the Godhead and Manhood, being united in one Person, never to be separated. This one Person is Christ, who is truly God and truly Man. He suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried in order to reconcile his Father to us, and to be a sacrifice for not only original sin, but also for the actual sins of humanity.

The Bible Tells Us: From the words of John 1:1-3 we learn that in the beginning there was the Word and it was with God, as well as in God. We also learn in John 1:14 that the Word became flesh and dwelled with us. So we understand that Jesus is both the Son of God and the Word that was present even at the creation of all things. For by the word and with the word God created all things. In this we know that "All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made". This vital and crucial link is important for us as Christians. For even by the name of Jesus the Christ we are saved. For in John 20:31 we are told that we are saved by His very name. Yes a word that holds for us our redemption, our salvation and our reconciliation with God our Creator.

Reflection: Whenever we are asked by others, who do not recognise Jesus the Christ as the Saviour, we can ruminate on the words of John 20:31 where Jesus Himself tells us that there is no other way to approach God but through Him as our perfect mediator. As for the part that Jesus plays within the Holy Trinity; we can note in 1 Corinthians 8:6 that we exist because of Him. We can recognise that from God from all things and for whom we exist. While through Jesus the Christ all things and through whom we exist: As an equal and shared blessing of our existence; a reality that we need to face and accept if we are ever to find redemption and acceptance with Jesus through the Holy Trinity.

It is true that when we talk about God's word, we tend think of the Bible right away. It's true that the Bible is God's word; but Jesus the Christ, who is the living Word, goes way beyond the words of scripture found in the Bible, which are the written holy words of God given to us for our guidance. In Jesus and through Him we can experience Gods' Word beyond the written words we find in the Bible. Yet there is more to this then we might first acknowledge or even perceive. The Bible uses the Word "Word" often; using the word both as a noun and a pro noun. The word "Word" is translated as logos, which essentially refers to the Word of God, which represents divine wisdom and the creative order, is recognised in the Gospel of John as the second person of the Trinity made flesh in Jesus Christ. Logos can be seen as the complete message of God to humanity (Acts 11:1; 1 Thessalonians 2:13). Jesus represented that entire message, which is why He is referred to as the "Logos," or "Word," of God (Colossians 1:19; 2:9). The perfect expression of Gods' Word and Gods' Will and even Gods' perfect expression of Grace for all of humanity.

Let's take a step back and consider how this works on a personal level. A level that each of us as Christians can connect with. If we are reading an autobiography we can learn many things about the person. We can read of their hopes and dreams, of their relationships with others. As well as their vision for the world around them and those they care for. Yet, unless we are able to meet and talk to them face to face, we have a limited comprehension of the person in the flesh. They may not even feel completely real to us. They may feel more created then physical. Our understanding and knowledge of them is all based on an analytical level of understanding. That is filtered through our personal feelings and beliefs. With no way for the subject to correct any mistakes we may derive from such a limited literary encounter.

Yet with Jesus as the living word we are able to both realise the Word of God as well as the Holy Bible. We can also experience Jesus personally as we encounter Him each day we live faithfully. He is not just a wordy construct that we can distantly read. A written construct that stays somewhat aloof from us. That we might feel safe to read without making any real commitment to follow His teaching and ways. As the living Word Jesus has become for us our closest friend. The Word had become Flesh and continues as the living Word of God. Never forget He is our Lord, our Saviour, our Redeemer and Gods' perfect Son.

Essentially John takes pains to introduce us to Jesus the Christ as Gods' Word or Logos made in the flesh. As we contemplate what this means we can come to a deeper understanding of just how important Knowing Jesus as our saviour is. As well as how walking in His way is vital for our personal walk of faith each day. In fact out of the many names attributed to Jesus;

Saviour, Redeemer, Bread of Life, Lord, Creator, Son of the living God, Only begotten Son,
Holy One of Israel, King of Kings, Alpha and Omega, King of the Jews, Master, Immanuel,
Lamb of God, The good Shepherd…

The on name that breathes to us the power of God manifested in the flesh is Logos. As it represents to us the complete physical and approachable saviour.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus the Christ,
You alone are to me;
The Son of God.
The Word made Flesh.
The Word of Salvation.

Jesus my Sovereign King:
In your name Lord;
I recognise Gods' grace,
I recognise Gods' purpose,
I recognise my salvation.

Amen
